Sun Prairie Youth Cycling Team (SPYCT) is a group of youth athletes, ages 7 through 18, who are, or will become, active in the sport of cycling. The goal is to teach each athlete the skills needed to become a confident cyclist. The athletes are supported by a group of parents whose goal is to give each the support needed to succeed in the sport of cycling. A group of Sun Prairie adults have laid the groundwork for a youth cycling team here in Sun Prairie, and the surrounding area. The basis of this group is to introduce young athletes to mountain biking, a sport that many are not aware of.
Whether the youth wants to compete or simply learn the skills necessary to become a more confident cyclist, SPYCT is for you. The Coaches will instruct and mentor the youths as they develop the skills needed to mountain bike safely all while having a blast doing it!
If competing is of interest the team will compete in a Wisconsin based race series call Wisconsin Off-Road Race Series (WORS). WORS promotes 10 races beginning in early May and ending late August. WORS offers a family-fun atmosphere and promotes youth racing as one of their main initiatives in the series. WORS averages over 600 participants at each event and over 8000 participants annually.
Sun Prairie Youth Cycling Team’s (SPYCT) mission is to assist boys and girls as they become involved in cycling. We will mentor the children as their abilities grow in the sport of cycling whether it be as a recreational or competitive cyclist. The children will learn such skills as team camaraderie, hard work and perseverance through cycling.
